This course is designed in consultation with HSE, by the Paper and Board Industry Advisory Committee which was appointed by the Health and Safety Commission as part of its formal structures. . Instructional contact-time must be a minimum of 8 hours.

This course will offer participants a detailed understanding in various segments, which are not limited to:

  1. Introduction: Overview of health and safety in the paper industries, importance of health and safety in the paper industry workplace
  2. Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment: Types of hazards commonly found in paper industries, techniques for identifying hazards in the workplace, such as noise, vibration, and dust exposure, how to conduct a risk assessment and evaluate the level of risk associated with identified hazards
  3. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Types of PPE commonly used in the paper industries, how to properly select, use, and maintain PPE, such as respiratory, eye and ear protection, training on the proper use of PPE
  4. Module 3: Ergonomics and Workplace Design: The principles of ergonomics and how they apply to paper industries, techniques for reducing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace, designing a workplace that promotes health and safety
  5. Safety Procedures and Emergency Preparedness: Standard operating procedures for safe work practices in the paper industries, how to develop and implement safety procedures, emergency preparedness and response planning, such as evacuation procedures, fire safety and first aid
  6. OSHA Regulations and Compliance: Overview of OSHA regulations specific to the paper industries, how to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, such as Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) and Process Safety Management (PSM), training on OSHA regulations and compliance
  7. Fire Safety: Fire hazards and risks specific to the paper industries, fire prevention and protection measures, such as fire extinguisher usage and maintenance, emergency shut-off valves and alarm systems, emergency procedures in case of fire
  8. Hazardous Substances and Waste Management: Identifying and managing hazardous substances in the workplace, such as chemicals and solvents, proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste, such as chemical spills, leaks and emergency response, training on the safe handling and disposal of hazardous substances and waste
  9. Accident Investigation and Reporting: Techniques for conducting accident investigations, how to report accidents and incidents, how to identify and correct accident causes
  10. Conclusion: Recap of the importance of health and safety in the paper industries, the role of employees and employers in promoting health and safety in the workplace, the benefits of a safe and healthy work environment in the paper industries.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.
